Meeting 12 Notes

A great big thankyou to Exa Networks for hosting today’s YCSC meeting offering exceptional, spacious facilities. A special thank you to Mark Dearlove – Security and Compliance Officer at Exa Networks for presenting his experience of implementing ISO27001:2013 (Information Security Management System). Mark offered insight into the certification process and the most challenging element of implementation – engaging employees. Mark also offered some points for successful implementation, focussing on the underlying reasons for certification management commitment, identifying the resources required, training/awareness and engaging with a UKAS accredited certification body.

Richard De Vere (Director of The Antisocial Engineer Limited) highlighted the hot topics of cyber security incidents that have been in the press recently, reminding all attendees that behind all the media hype and the ‘point the finger’ culture, there are cyber criminals waiting in the wings to exploit the incidents further. Melanie Oldham (Managing Director of Bob’s Business Limited) presented the new structure of future YCSC meetings, incorporating best practice techniques adopted by other Clusters around the UK. Melanie also informed attendees of various government initiatives that have been established to assist businesses in collaborating on cyber issues and opportunities, which can be found in the presentation slides.
